Sewing items for
the community is an activity enjoyed by many ASG members and
chapters. Community service is not required of any ASG
chapter. However, reporting the work our chapter does is helpful to
our chapter and the whole organization in success-fully obtaining
donations, grants, and positive publicity for ASG.
The Plano Chapter
has undertaken to support the Newborns-in-Need Organization as of
2007. Consequently our members have been sewing infant shirts, caps
and demise wraps. These items are desperately needed in our
metroplex and yet they take so little time to construct. The
Neighborhood Group, Material Girls, is actively involved in
contributing garments for this organization.
In May, 2008 the
membership will meet to sew anti-ouch pouches for the ASG National
project for the Chicago, IL chapter. This pouch is sewn together
somewhat akin to a pillow with a strap. It is then lightly filled
with fiber-fill and “worn” by women recovering from breast surgery.
The directions for making this bag can be found on the ASG website
www.asg.org.
